Doringbay is the home location for the Fryer’s Cove Winery. The actual winery is perched on the jetty that juts into the cold South Atlantic Ocean. The unique winery building is an old Crayfish factory, and our winery, as far as we know is the only winery built on the sea in the world

We’re not saying that the sun should be baking your skin, like some ancient Greek goddess, or that you should dig your feet into the cool sands of the pristine west-coast beaches while enjoying the laughter of your friends around you, or that any of the above would create the ideal drinking conditions……but it would certainly help set the mood! Enjoy within 5 years after bottling.

Our Sauvignon Blanc must shout at you! “Fresh, Crisp, Steely, Grassy, Ripe, Tangy, Tropical Fruit – Please enjoy me now!” We think it does! All the hallmarks of our unique west coast style of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc coming from the cold sea mists off the South Atlantic.

Cheese (especially goats cheese), Green vegetables (asparagus, zucchini, fresh peas, artichokes), Oysters, Delicate fish like Sole, Mild vinaigrettes.

Bamboes Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2017


One of our best Sauvignon Blanc harvests in recent years, with a wonderful long, dry, ripening period with cold nights. The berries were small and healthy packed with flavour. The final ripening was quick and the grapes were picked at super sugar levels over a short period of time.

Great with Fusion recipes containing Basil, Cilantro, Rocket and especially Mint. Superb with crisp salads with Chevre Cheese or feta prevailing. Wonderful with BBQ Chicken.

BAMBOES BAY ‘HOLLEBAKSSTRANDFONTEIN’ SAUVIGNON BLANC RESERVE 2016


The original name of the farm at Bamboes Bay. Translated from the Dutch, the name means a “hollow bin” and “beach fountain”. In earlier days, farmers in this arid area used it as source of fresh water for their livestock from this “fountain” down in this hollow.

Tasting Notes

A full structured Oak and Clay Pot fermented Sauvignon Blanc then aged for 18 months. Profound minerality with lemon, citrus, white flowers and some fresh hay. The intense palate is rich, creamy, chalky packed with our unique “kelp” personality we seem to get from our shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Remarkably balanced, complex dry finish.

Suggested Food Pairings

Sublime with poached Salmon, even tasty West Coast Oysters add an amazing combination with this oak matured Sauvignon Blanc. Even try a fine creamy goat’s cheese with this exquisite wine; you have a match made in heaven!

Bamboes Bay Pinot Noir 2017


One of our best Pinot Noir harvests in recent years, albeit a small volume as the birds took their share! We had a wonderful long, dry, ripening period with perfect cold nights. The grapes reached good phenolic ripeness and picked by hand at optimum sugar levels. The resultant berries were healthy and packed with flavour.

Tasting Notes

Our unique style of medium bodied Pinot Noir has faint floral smells of roses, violets and a background aroma of fruit that leans towards raw, freshly picked cherries and cranberries. Our Pinot Noir has this wonderful fruitiness, and hints of spicy salty sea aromas in the background. Earthy aromas, including smells similar to a brown paper bag full of wild forest mushrooms sneaking through as a classic lineage to this delicious red varietal. The taste is full juicy red fruits with superb balance and subtle oaking.

Suggested Food Pairings

Wild Mushroom Risotto Spiced Duck Ragù, Juicy Free Range Roast Chicken with a Pinot Noir Sauce. Superb with Roasted Vegetables and if you like a chilled red with a fine fillet of fresh sea Cob in its subtle lemon creamed butter sauce, you have a winner!
